The defeats of the former leaders, helped Simba to move further ahead of their rivals. The team’s deadly duo; SHIZA Kichuya and Jamal Mnyate each scored a brace to give Simba SC a voluminous 4-0 win over struggling Majimaji FC in a one-sided encounter held at the National Stadium yesterday.
Simba, who dominate the game from the word go, began to roar in the fourth minute after Jamal Mnyate tapped the ball into the back of the net from a rebound after Majimaji goalkeeper Amani Simba fumbled Ibrahim Ajib’s shot.
The move was initiated by Laudit Mavugo from the right flank. After the goal Simba continued to pile pressure on their opponent’s goal, but wasted several scoring chances they created through Mavugo, Kichuya, Mnyate and Ajib who was a constant menace to porous Majimaji defence.
Led by their skipper Selemani Kibita, Majimaji who were looking to stun their host, failed to achieve that goal as the team’s striking force was too blunt to penetrate a water-tight defence co-manned by a Zimbabwean, Method Mwanjali and Ugandan Juuko Murshid. In the 22nd minute, Simba had a blow after Ajib picked an injury and was forced to go out limping, his place was taken by Said Ndemla.
The two sides went into the break with Simba in a slim lead. The resumption saw Simba coming even stronger with determination to hunt for more goals. Simba Cameroonian coach, Joseph Omog introduced in Mohamed Ibrahim and Ame Ali for Mzamiru Yassin and Mavugo respectively, the change seemed to sharpen the team’s striking force.
Simba netted the second goal in the 67th through Kichuya’s well taken spot, which they were awarded by referee Ludovick Charles after substitute Marcell Boniventura who came in for Luka Kikoti, handed the ball inside the box in attempt to clear kichuya’s cross .
Kichuya himself converted the spotkick to double the lead for his side. Simba continued to harass Majimaji’s goal and in the 75th minute, Mnyate netted the third and his second goal of the match.
Mohamed Ibrahim superbly dribbled past two defenders and entered into the box and volleyed the ball which was easily tapped into the net by Mnyate.
Nine minutes before full time, Kichuya scored the fourth goal for Simba after receiving a long pass from the centre of the pitch from Jonas Mkude.
The scorer outmanoeuvred Majimaji defence and placed the ball home past advancing Majimaji goalkeeper. Ndemla nearly added the fifth, but his shot hit the post, the rebound met Kichuya who failed to place it home, hence missing a hat-trick.
While Simba maintained their lead with 16 points, their close competitors Azam yesterday suffered their second consecutive defeat after losing 2-1 to the hosts Ndanda FC at the Nangwanda Sijaona Stadium.
Azam were the first to score through their captain John Bocco, but Ndanda came from behind to win the game after Riffat Khamis scored the equaliser before Haji Ponda netted the winner later in the second half. In other league match, JKT Ruvu beat Mbeya City 2-0 to record their victory at their Mabatini ground.
In Morogoro Mtibwa Sugar failed to maintain their home winning run after they were forced to a 1-1 draw by Mbao FC at their Manungu Complex, whereas at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya, Tanzania Prisons were held to a barren draw by visiting Mwadui FC.
